Society

A Burial Society is an organised group of people who help each other in the event of the death of a member or a dependent. You must have a minimum of 20 members and you can add as many people as you want. Members can also be on different EcoSure packages.

What you need:

Form your leadership team

Select an Executive Committee made up of a Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer. These three individuals will be responsible for governing and managing your Burial Society.

Gather required documentation

Collect the following documents from each Executive Committee member:
  • Proof of residence
  • Certified copies of ID documents
  • Passport-size photographs

Complete application forms

Fill out both required application forms:
  • EcoSure Burial Society application form
  • EcoCash Group Account application form
The Group Account will be used to facilitate the payment of premiums and for the disbursement of claim amounts to the group.

Establish your constitution

Create a constitution that will govern the administration of your Burial Society. This document should outline the rules, procedures, and governance structure for your organisation.

Create member database

Establish a comprehensive database that lists all members, including:
  • National ID number (Birth Entry numbers for minors)
  • Mobile numbers
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Preferred EcoSure package

📝 Important note about database changes

If you want to make changes to your member database after your Burial Society has been formed, you must communicate these changes in writing before the payment of your monthly premium. A template is available at any Econet Service Centre to guide you through this process.

How to pay your Burial Society premiums

Payments can be made through the following options:

  1. Deposit into the EcoCash Group account:
    • Members can deposit their premiums directly into their EcoCash Merchant Account.
  2. Deposit into the following Steward Bank account:
    • EMMT Trust account
    • 101 Kwame Nkrumah Branch
    • Account number: 1000392142
    • Reference code: 92809

When making a bank transfer, the Treasurer must clearly indicate the name of the Burial Society and the Chairperson for traceability.

To make a claim

 

When a Burial Society member or dependant passes on, you will need to make a claim within 48 hours of the death at any of the EcoSure Funeral Service Partner’s outlet or Econet Shop.
